State Lawmaker Wants To Ban BPA From Baby Bottles, Pacifiers

DENVER (CBS4) - A Colorado lawmaker is taking the first step in banning bisphenol A, known as BPA from baby bottles and pacifiers.

BPA is used as a hardening agent used in bottles and pacifiers. It's been linked to a variety of diseases ranging from cancer to diabetes to obesity.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Daniel Kagan, D-Englewood, points out other states have already banned BPA.

"In those states it's been totally successful and the BPA baby bottles and sippy cups have just stopped going into the states," Kagan said. "States that haven't yet banned BPA have been the ones where these BPA bottles and sippy cups are being sort of dumped."

Kagan says many products with BPA have already been removed from store shelves. He wants them all gone.
