Find Reasonable Rates On Luxury Hotel Rooms

DENVER (CBS4) - Lots of people are already thinking about spring break and summer vacations, and it turns out it may be easier than many think to find reasonable rates on luxury hotel rooms.

4 On Your Side Money Saver Suzanne McCarroll found insider advice from those in the hotel business who say in most cases travelers can avoid paying full price.

From the shiny, perhaps slightly gaudy, bright lights of Las Vegas to the prim and proper Plaza Hotel in New York City, there is room to bargain on room rates.

Call the hotel to make future reservations after 9 p.m.

"Before 6 a.m. It's really kind of an overnight sale, so if you're looking for really great deals any time of the week, but typically Tuesdays, Wednesdays is when we'll have those flash sales," Von De Luna with Hotel Monaco in Denver said.

Ask for an out-of-order room. That is one in which there is slight damage, such as a torn curtain, fraying carpet, or something else that can be easily ignored.

When a last-minute room is needed, tell the front desk what you can afford to pay.

"Because hotels, we would rather fill the room than leave the room sit empty over night," Leeanna Roberts with the Inn at Cherry Creek said.

Many hotels like the Inn at Cherry Creek have discounts for stays of more than one night.

All the hotels CBS4 called agreed on one very simple tip to get a discount -- befriend the staff at the front desk when checking in.

"Nothing is locked in," Roberts said.

Another tip is to use Priceline.com's "Name Your Own Price" feature. It allows users to pick the city and what part of the city the user wants to stay.
