2 Children Rescued From Denver Pond

DENVER (CBS4) -- Two children rescued from a small pond in Denver are expected be okay.

Denver Fire Department Lt. Phil Champagne said both children were rescued at about 3:40 p.m. Friday from the pond outside the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center and taken to a waiting ambulance.

Firefighters said the children were a suffering from a little hypothermia from having fallen through the ice into the freezing water but are expected to be okay.

Coper4 flew over the scene after the children were already out of the water.

The pond is behind the King Soopers at Green Valley Ranch Blvd. and Tower Road.

Fire departments across the metro area say they've seen around two dozen ice rescues this winter involving both people and pets.
