DENVER (CBS4)- Spirit Airlines is returning to Denver. It bills itself as the first ultra-low fare airline.
Staring May 3, Spirit Airlines will fly from Denver International Airport to Chicago O’Hare, Dallas Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas. Promotional fares start at $58 for a round trip.
While Spirit is known for low fares, it also has more fees than its competitors. The airline charges for carry on bags, advance seat assignments and booking a ticket.
“Spirit empowers customers to save money on travel by offering ultra-low base fares with a range of optional services for a fee, allowing customers the freedom to choose only the extras they value,” said Spirit Airlines spokeswoman Misty Pinson.
Spirit will face competition on all of its Denver routes with DIA’s three biggest carriers, United Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
Spirit Airlines had previously flown into and out of Denver between 2000 and 2004.
