Soldiers, Air Force Personnel Get Free Outing
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Twenty soldiers and Air Force personnel from Fort Carson and Peterson Air Force Base will spend a weekend camping, snowshoeing, skiing and fishing during an outing intended to help ease their transition back to civilian life.
The event takes place this weekend at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti (kyur-e-KAHN'-tee) National Recreation Area in southwestern Colorado.
The weekend is free for the service personnel.
The Sierra Club, Colorado Wilderness Rides and Guides and the National Park Service are organizing the event, called "Post to Parks." This is the inaugural event and the groups are planning more.
Fort Carson and Peterson, both in Colorado Springs, are helping with support and coordination.
