Parents Face Child Abuse Charges In Neglect Case

DENVER (CBS4)- A mother and father have been charged with child abuse after authorities said their 3-year-old daughter weighed only 19 pounds.

Kenny and Kathleen Sanchez are each charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

The charges allege that the couple malnourished and mistreated their daughter.

The case came to light on Feb. 2 when an off-duty police officer saw the family in a store and was concerned over the appearance of the little girl.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment. She and her brother and sister have been placed in protective care.

Both defendants remain in custody at the Denver County Jail on bonds of $50,000 each. They are scheduled to appear in court Feb. 16 to be advised of the charges.
