Japanese Group Thanks Denver School For Bake Sale
DENVER (AP) - A delegation from one of the areas hardest hit by last year's earthquake and tsunami in Japan is thanking Colorado for its help.
The group from the Miyagi Prefecture on Tuesday visited a Denver elementary school where students raised nearly $500 for disaster victims through a week-long bake sale. Denver Public Schools said the officials were touched by their donation since most students at Garden Place Elementary come from low-income homes.
The delegation also gave an update on recovery efforts during a luncheon downtown hosted by the Japan-America Society of Colorado and the American Red Cross. The two groups coordinated donations from Colorado following the quake. They also met with Lt. Joe Joe Garcia.
They plan to head to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.
