Sen. Udall Takes Up Mine Pollution Issue

DENVER (AP) - U.S. Sen. Mark Udall is trying to find better legal ways to clean up abandoned mines in the West.

The Colorado senator says people who did not create the contamination should not face legal liability for cleaning up the wastes. Udall plans to make his case to the Senate on Tuesday.

Udall has been trying since 2009 to work with volunteer groups and the Environmental Protection Agency to find a way to legally protect groups that are willing and able to clean up polluted sites around the state.
