DENVER (CBS4)- Metro State is getting a new name. The school’s board approved the change Thursday.

The word “College” will be swapped with the word “University” in “Metropolitan State College of Denver” making it “Metropolitan State University of Denver.”

The school says the proposed name change will be introduced into the Senate Education Committee next week. The new name reflects a compromise with the University of Denver.

If the name change is approved it will go into effect in August.
