DENVER (AP) — Gov. John Hickenlooper is announcing the next steps to restore the Colorado Capitol dome.

The governor on Thursday is outlining plans to use banners on the dome to raise money for the project.

Contractors for the state’s ongoing Capitol dome restoration project have already begun placing a protective, weatherproof wrap around the gold-covered dome. The fabric is expected to be in place for the next two years.

Restoration of the dome became necessary after Colorado’s intense freeze-thaw cycle caused the exterior metal surfaces to deteriorate over the past 100 years.
