Littleton Man Offering To Shovel Sidewalks Arrested For Burglary

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) - Littleton police said they arrested a man who was offering to shovel residents' sidewalks for burglary.

Lt. Kim Ferber with Littleton police said last Wednesday an officer responded to a burglary call in the 2400 block of West Sunset Drive.

"When he arrived on scene the homeowner pointed out strange footprints on the property leading up to the residence. Over the previous several hours, a couple of inches of fresh snow had accumulated, so Officer Ford, along with other officers, began tracking the footprints for a possible suspect," Ferber said in a statement.

Ferber said officers began following the footprints and located a witness who said a man with a black and red shovel offered to clear his sidewalks.

"The officers continued to follow the footprints which lead to multiple other homes and backyards," Ferber said.

Ferber said the officers tracked the footprints over a half mile and then contacted Leandro John Gonzales, 28, who matched the description provided by the witness.

"After further investigation, Gonzales was taken into custody and the homeowner's property was returned."

Gonzales is being held on $50,000 bond for charges of second degree burglary, theft, and criminal possession of a financial device.
