Unusual Deal Being Offered For Condos In The High Country
COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. (CBS4) - What's not to like about buy-one-get-one-free? But one Colorado company bet it all on Mother Nature.
Forecasters guaranteed a foot of snow by this weekend, and if it didn't happen, go back later for free.
Copper Mountain is the only place in Summit County that received a foot of snow in the past week. CBS4's Jeff Todd talked to one of the property managers who lucked out.
Sky Run manages about 200 properties, many luxurious and entertaining, throughout Summit County and Steamboat. Last week the managers decided they'd bet on the snow in order to fill their vacancies.
"Basically we looked at our available inventory for the holiday weekend coming up and decided it was time to take a more aggressive approach," Sky Run owner Paul Myers said.
Those who book by Saturday and the area they are near doesn't reach a foot of snow, they can come back later in the year for a free weekend.
"The storm track has shifted and we seem to be getting heavier snows than we have in the past and it's definitely helped out with over a foot of snow in the past week," Dwight Eppinger with Copper Mountain said.
Sky Run says the idea is to get locals from the metro area to come up, stay, and realize conditions aren't as bad as they assume.
"We've got vacancies and we just hate to see people, particularly those on the Front Range, miss out on the good ski conditions right now," Myers said.
There's still time to take advantage of the deal before the weekend.
"Keystone, Breckenridge, Steamboat haven't quite hit that one foot mark, so there's still time to get in on that guarantee if the foot of snow doesn't fall this week they can come back another time in the season and stay on us," Myers said.
Myers says those who stay at Copper, which already has the foot, he'll throw in a night later in the season as well.
They've rented nearly 25 percent more properties this year compared to last year when there was a ton of snow.
