Police Investigating Pepper Spray Incidents At Stores
DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are searching for two men who pepper sprayed security officers at a Walmart.
It happened on Sunday at the Walmart at 7700 West Quincy.
The two men took items from the store and didn't pay for them. They were confronted by store security and ran away with those stolen items.
"In our case they go throughout the store, they take blue tubs and they are putting electronics inside the tubs and running out with the tubs," Raquel Lopez with Denver police said. "It sounds like the pepper spray is coming in when they are exiting the store at the time when they are being approached by security."
Police in the Denver metro area are investigating whether this incident is related to another incident in which shoplifters used pepper spray to get away from security officers in Sheridan.
Firefighters evacuated a Super Target store at the Riverpoint retail complex at Santa Fe and Hampden Tuesday afternoon. In that instance two men were shoplifting when a security officer approached them. That's when a third person sprayed pepper spray at the officer. Two security officers and a store employee were treated.
Police released surveillance photos of what's being investigated as suspicious activity at the Target store in Northfield near Stapleton on Monday.
Detectives believe the same suspects could have been involved in Tuesday's incident in Sheridan. The man pictured is believed to have been evaluating the store layout and merchandise.
