Family Of Murdered Ft. Carson Soldier Says Another Soldier Is Responsible

FORT CARSON, Colo. (CBS4)- The family of a murdered Fort Carson soldier believes a fellow solider is responsible for her death.

Brandy Fonteneaux's body was found in the barracks over the weekend. The Private 1st Class was in the 4th Engineer Battalion at the Fort Carson Army Post near Colorado Springs.

Fonteneaux, 28, worked as a food service specialist. Her family in Texas said she joined the military three years ago with dreams of serving her country.

"She joined the military so she could be able to travel the world and see different things, to fight for her country," said Brandy's sister Nkenge Foneneaux.

Nkenge said Brandy was found naked and stabbed to death.

"And it's just a tragedy, an overwhelming tragedy," said Nkenge. "We're at a loss at the beginning of a new year. This is what our family has to deal with."

While the Army has released very few details about the investigation, Fonteneaux's sister said a sergeant was found in another room on the post, covered in blood.

"We don't understand why. Why would someone with high ranking in the military do something to a private first class?" said Nkenge.

The case is being handled by the Army's criminal investigation command. They will only confirm the investigation into Fonteneaux's death as a homicide.

The Army has not confirmed any of the details the family talked about, including how Brandy died.
