1 Killed In Car Crash In Aurora

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A person has died after a one car accident in Aurora early Saturday morning.

Lt. Charles DeShazer with Aurora police said at 1:35 a.m. officers responded to a call about a Subaru that had struck a traffic light pole on the southeast corner of East Colfax Avenue and North Xanadu Street.

"Arriving officers found a good Samaritan had removed the driver, who was unconscious, from the car due to smoke from the engine compartment. Shortly after officers arrived, the car ignited into flames," DeShazer said in a statement.

The driver was transported to a hospital but died.

"The driver may have fallen asleep or suffered a medical problem which allowed the car to drift to the right side of the road where it struck the traffic signal pole at Xanadu Street," DeShazer said.

DeShazer said the driver wasn't wearing a seat belt and may have been drinking.

The driver's name has not been released.
