2 Injured After Explosion Inside Car In Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Colo. (CBS4) - Two people were rushed to the hospital after an explosive device went off in their car while they were driving. Some people living in that neighborhood have been forced to leave their homes.

The explosion happened Saturday afternoon in the 300 block of Lodgewood Point in Lafayette.

A bomb squad was still at the scene at 6 p.m. and it's not clear when the residents will be allowed to return to their homes.

The car appeared to be a Volvo station wagon. The driver and passenger had just left their home and were about a block and a half away when the explosion occurred inside the car. The woman and man in the car got out.

Neighbors told CBS4 the two people looked badly injured. They were taken to Exempla Hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

At one point the bomb squad used a tactical robot to inspect the car.

"We can see from cameras on the robot that there are burn marks inside the car," a police official said. "At this point we haven't secured to see if there's a secondary device."

CBS4 Investigator Rick Sallinger found out the home is listed to a woman that has the same name of a woman that was in the news in August of 2010. The woman, Allyson Stone, was involved in a dog attack.

Watch Sallinger's report in the video below:

The dog attack occurred at the Jasper Animal Hospital in Lafayette where Stone worked as a veterinarian technician. An inch of her upper lip was bitten off by a dog named "Spork."

Stone was seriously injured then, but what made the story even more eye opening at the time is that the incident was followed by death threats. Those threats came to the veterinary hospital and to Lafayette City Council members.

Stone was criticized in Internet forums for her handling of the dog.

Sallinger spoke with the doctor at the vet clinic who had not heard of the bomb incident. He was quite emotional and said he "can't believe this is happening again."
