Suncor Refinery Warned To Stop Using Tap Water

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- The Colorado Department of Health is warning the Suncor Oil Refinery in Commerce City to stop using its tap water.

Toxic chemicals started showing up in nearby Sand Creek earlier this month. Since then, crews have been cleaning up the benzine, which is a component of gasoline.

Health officials believe the chemical contributed to the refinery's water distribution system.

The refinery is being ordered to stop using that water immediately and take the needed steps to purify the water.

Health officials said there is no risk to anyone off the Suncor property.
