DENVER (CBS4) – Denver residents who aren’t sure what to do with their Christmas tree now that the holiday is passed can take advantage of the city’s Treecycle program.
The trees placed on the curbs by residents will be chipped into mulch. Residents will then be able to collect the mulch for free in the spring.
Denver Public Works offers the program between Jan. 3 and Jan. 13. They offered the following specifics:
Dumpster service: Customers should place their Christmas tree out for recycling on either Jan. 3 or Jan. 9 for collection during that week. Do not place trees in dumpsters. Trees should be placed at least four feet away from dumpsters.
Barrel and Manual service: Customers should place their Christmas tree out for recycling on their normal trash day between Jan. 3 and 13.
The city said trees must have all the decorations removed and the tree stand can’t still be connected to the tree. The program only applies to real trees.
The free mulch will be available on May 5 at Denver’s Mulch Giveaway and Compost Sale.
