Thieves Target Packages From Home Porches

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) - There's a Grinch out there swiping the holiday spirit right off porches in Douglas County.

Thieves have hit at least six times in two weeks in Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch.

Residents like Debbie McGinley have had enough.

"My kid is waiting for something from his grandma and he's not going to get it because someone takes it? It's not fair," McGinley said.

UPS offers some protection. For $3 customers can require a signature. For $5 customers can control exactly when and how the package will be delivered.

"They'll know exactly when the package is coming or they can have it redirected to a UPS store, or have a neighbor receive it, or even let the driver know where to leave it; the porch or garage," Jerry Foster with UPS said.

UPS is delivering 250,000 packages per day in the metro area this week alone.
