Grinch Steals Toys From Federal Heights Church

FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. (CBS4) - Some needy children in Federal Heights may be without a gift this Christmas after someone stole all the toys collected by a neighborhood church.

The burglary happened at Thrive Church on West 92nd Saturday night. The toys were taken when the church was full of people.

In 11 years Thrive Church has blossomed. It's the heart of the community for many people, especially the children. On Saturday night they held the annual children's Christmas program.

"We have boxes in the lobby area where we collect gifts for families, kids of the community," Pastor Bo Sosa said.

Three big boxes were full of toys. But thieves, waiting for the right moment, grabbed the box of toys at the north entrance and the box of toys at the south and then sped away.

Sosa ministers to a low income, struggling congregation. He's heartbroken for the children.

The church now is down to about 15 toys and there are 65 children on the gift list.

Sosa isn't angry about the theft.

"I don't think that would be pleasing to the Lord. We just want to make sure those kids have something for Christmas," Sosa said.

Sosa has put out a call for more donations.

"We believe that God will supply," he said.

Sosa has a message for the thieves.

"There must have been a reason why you did it; let us reach out to you; let us help you and be a blessing to you as well."

Sosa says the theft just fuels his fire to help the community.
