CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) – A Libyan national accused of sexually assaulting and beating his neighbor after she invited him to her Glendale apartment has been sentenced to 12 years in a Colorado prison.

Prosecutors say 37-year-old Ali Ahmed Abooebdella was sentenced Monday. He pleaded guilty in October to second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury and attempted sexual contact with force. He was arrested in London, where prosecutors say he was trying to flee to Libya.

The Denver Post reports that according to court records, his sentence includes repaying $4,053 in prosecution costs, $4,050 in other restitution and a $750 sex offender surcharge. He has been held on $500,000 bond since his arrest.
