2 Inert Grenades Found Beside Denver Street

DENVER (AP) - Police say they found two inert grenades in metal boxes beside a Denver street, but they say the public wasn't in danger because the devices couldn't explode.

Officer Vicki Ferrari says a bomb squad was called out Sunday after a pedestrian saw the boxes leaning against a tree and called police. Ferrari says the boxes looked like military ammunition cases.

She says she doesn't know if the grenades were dummies or replicas, or if they were real grenades with no explosives in them.

Ferrari says police are investigating but have no suspects.

Police closed off the area to traffic while the bomb squad was checking the boxes. No one was evacuated.
