Tiny Kitten Rescued After Nearly Freezing To Death

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - A tiny kitten nearly froze to death over the weekend after it was left outside in the frigid elements. The 3-month-old kitten named "Icy" is recovering at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley after it was rescued by a good samaritan.

She was found in Lafayette on Sunday.

"A woman had gone outside after a fresh snow and had noticed a trail of tiny little footprints leading to her shed and that's where she found this kitten who was extremely cold," said Veterinary Assistant Alexa Tobiason.

"We were stunned that she was actually alive," said Veterinarian Dr. Lesli Groshong.

The good Samaritan brought the kitten to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley where they warmed her up and named her "Icy." Her left eye is ulcerated and she has an upper respiratory infection.

"Fortunately she has decided to continue eating so she has a pretty good prognosis at this point," said Tobiason.

With her friendly disposition, those at the humane society believe Icy was a pet who somehow ended up outside.

"They're really in danger because they don't have those survival skills," said Groshong.

Icy has gained two ounces since Sunday, but she'll need quite a bit of TLC before she can be adopted.

The Humane Society of Boulder Valley has 62 other cats looking for good homes. On Dec. 16 they will hold Free Cat Friday, the adoption fee on all adult cats will be waived and kittens will be half price.
