Brazen Robbers Hit Stores & Restaurants In Denver, Lakewood
DENVER (CBS4) - Two armed and dangerous men have been robbing stores and restaurants in Denver and Lakewood. In one case, a clerk was shot in the face with a BB gun.
Police believe the same two men have struck five times in the past three weeks. The men are after cash.
Police have dubbed the suspects the "Crummy Cookies Bandits" because when they robbed a Subway restaurant they started off ordering some cookies.
It was about 7:30 p.m. and Patricia Agbisit was the only one working at the Subway near Colorado Boulevard and East Colfax Avenue.
"They probably cased the store seeing there was no one here," Agbisit said.
Agbisit said the robbers came in and asked for a few peanut butter cookies. When she opened the register the suspects made their move.
"So he jumped on the counter, put me down with the gun, swiped out the drawer … left the cookies and him and his partner took off," Agbisit said. "It was demanding and it was violent because they had a gun."
Police think they're responsible for four robberies in Denver and one in Lakewood at a 7-Eleven.
"Once the clerk opened the cash register both men jumped over the counter and pulled guns on her," Steve Davis with Lakewood police said. "They shot her in the face with the BBs, she took off running and they kept shooting at her."
Police say it's only a matter of time the suspects are caught because the surveillance photos are very clear.
"You can hold up a store with a real gun or a BB gun and you're going to do the same amount of time in prison," Davis said. "If I put you in fear for your life I can't later say, 'Well, it was a BB gun.' "
"I didn't know if I would live through that. So yeah, it was very scary," Agbisit said.
