Book Bought For $50 Now Headed To Museum

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A book bought in Mexico City by a Grand Junction couple on their honeymoon 39 years ago is heading to a cultural institute in Mexico.

Rob and Beverly Elliott bought an unbound copy of the 1907 book "Los Calendarios Mexicanos" in a shop near the Hotel Maria Cristina while on their honeymoon in Mexico City in 1972.

The book has colorful illustrations that appear to explain the Aztec calendar. Six U.S. university libraries have copies in their collection that also covers the Mayan calendar and other Mexican antiquities.

The Daily Sentinel reports a Mexican official accepted Elliott's offer to return the book to Mexico, where it will go into the National Institute of Anthropology and History. The institute examines and conserves Mexico's cultural heritage.
