CBS4 Offers Tips For Traveling To And Flying Out Of DIA

DENVER (CBS4) - Plenty of people will be driving to Denver International Airport to travel or to pick up loved ones for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Those who travel to DIA definitely want to give themselves plenty of time not only to navigate the roads, but also to find parking and get through flight check-in as well as security lines.

Copter4 flew over the airport Tuesday morning. The east side economy and Pikes Peak lots are now full. DIA says the west side economy lot is filling up fast. The best bet is going to be parking in the Mount Elbert lot for $7 a day. Both garages also have space.

Even before leaving the house call the airline to see that it's on time. Check in online if possible. Plan on arriving at the airport 2 hours prior to the flight departure time.

To get through security as smoothly as possible, remember it's one carry-on bag and one personal item per traveler. Leave holiday gifts unwrapped -- the Transportation Security Administration may open wrapped packages to check the contents.

There are two telephone numbers that might be useful. The first is (303) DIA-PARK for parking availability in DIA lots. And (303) DIA-TIPS for information on security-screening wait times.
