Mayor Hancock Kicks Off Denver's Mile High Holidays Campaign

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver's first lady, Mary Louise Lee, helped kick off the holiday season by singing a few tunes on the 16th Street Mall Monday morning.

Monday marked the start of the Mile High Holidays campaign. The goal is to let people know about all the things to do in Denver from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day.

Monday morning at the Denver Pavilions Mayor Michael Hancock talked about the importance of the holidays to Denver shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. He said families can have a great time downtown while helping the local economy.

"While the holidays are a magical time of the year, they are also a crucial period for many businesses in the city," Hancock said. "Holiday shopping helps provide the means to fund all of our services from fire protection to libraries, hospitals and parks and recreation."
