Police Arrest Driver Wanted In Hit & Run

DENVER (CBS4) - Police have arrested the driver who they believe ran over a man twice in a hit-and-run incident in West Denver on Friday morning.

Roberta Marie Roberts, 64, turned herself into police Friday night. She also told them where they could locate her SUV. Police recovered the Mitsubishi Montero near 20th and Wadsworth. Police said Roberts was driving with a suspended license.

Police believe Roberts backed up and ran over a man at the Denver Human Services Building at 12th and Federal. Others told her to get off him and she ran over the man second time and took off.

"They were yelling at her to stop but she just drove away," said witness David Hoffschneider. "I was in there waiting for my daughter and I heard the sirens pull up and I heard the ambulance pull up."

The victim was listed in critical condition in the hospital at midday.

"Then the security told her to pull up and so she ran over him again and pulled away and drove away," said Hoffschneider.

Police reviewed video captured from a nearby surveillance camera. It's possible that the whole thing was caught on tape.

"I am familiar with that parking lot and that area. It's very busy. There is a lot of pedestrian traffic," Denver Police Det. John White.

The victim is in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center from serious injuries to his leg.

"They had him on a gurney with a neck brace and oxygen," said Hoffschneider. "He looked like he was in pretty bad shape."
