Local Families Celebrate National Adoption Day
DENVER (CBS4)- Dozens of families walked out of Colorado courtrooms today with new members. One hundred foster children across the state found forever families on Friday, also National Adoption Day.
Micky McCaslin knows the power of adoption. She was adopted. McCaslin then adopted her two daughters and a son.
"Oh, he's a great kid. He's 2 years old.
CBS4's Ed Greene emceed the event at a courtroom in Denver. Mayor Michael Hancock was there for the celebration with a simple message for adoptive parents finally completing their journey.
"Thank you so very much," said Hancock.
Marne Gulley adopted her daughter, Takhia, when she was just 2-years-old. Then she got a surprising call. Takhia had a biological sister, Kaliyah, in another state.
"Got the call she was in town and needed a family. We had lots of leeway to think about it and make sure it was the right decision for our family but it didn't take long to think the of the two of them being united," said Gulley.
Since its inception, 35,000 children have had their adoptions finalized on National Adoption Day.
