Deputies Prepare To Make Arrest In Mysterious Murder

FREDERICK, Colo. (CBS4)- Deputies are preparing to arrest a suspect wanted for murdering a man at his home in Frederick.

Thomas Bashline was found shot in the head inside his home Nov. 4. Bashline, 42, was an athletic trainer for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Investigators confirm they are close to issuing an arrest warrant for a man who they say met Bashline through an ad on Craigslist in the section titled "Men Seeking Men."

A source in the Weld County Sheriff's Office confirms that the person of interest is a man in his early 20s. He is currently being held in the Boulder County Jail on unrelated charges.

The gun investigators believe he used to shoot and kill Bashline has been recovered. When detectives first arrived at his home, the murder weapon was missing. Detectives have not revealed where the gun was found.

Investigators believe the suspect and Bashline arranged to meet in Longmont and then drove to Bashline's home in Frederick. They then believe he shot Bashline and stole his truck.

Although Bashline worked as an athletic trainer for the Harlem Globetrotters and conducted drug testing for professional athletes, sources said it does not appear his death had anything to do with his career in sports.
