Woman Jumps From Closet During Burglary, Startles Thieves
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A Colorado Springs woman said she became brave moments before jumping out of her closet during a home invasion, startling the burglars into the hands of waiting police officers.
Meg Zorn made a frantic call to 911 when she heard someone trying to break into her home.
Zorn: "They're trying to break the window."
Dispatch: "And your first name?"
Zorn: "They're coming into my house!"
That's when she ran into her bedroom and hid in a closet while the dispatcher tried to calm her down. Zorn could only whisper to the 911 dispatch operator.
Zorn: "Please hurry..."
Dispatch: "They're on their way. I'm going to stay on the phone with you until officers are there, okay?"
Zorn: "Please hurry, they came in the back."
Dispatch: "I'm showing they're pulling up in the area. I'm going to stay on the phone until I know what's going on here."
Zorn said it was when they came close to her hiding place she became really scared.
"I realized when they were in my bedroom that these were not kids," said Zorn.
That's when Zorn said she became brave and leapt out of the closet and screamed at the burglars.
"I was just thinking at that point they're not going to make it in time," said Zorn.
Police had just arrived outside Zorn's home.
"Seeing several, five or more, cops out my front door. As far as I'm concerned they were ten feet tall and bulletproof," said Zorn.
The two burglary suspects were arrested after a short chase through the neighborhood.
