DOJ: Man Took Dead Mother's Social Security

DENVER (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a Hudson man collected nearly $22,000 over two years after his mother died.

U.S. Attorney John Walsh said Thursday that 55-year-old Wayne Henry Ackermann of Hudson has been ordered to repay the money and serve five years on probation, including six months of home detention. He was sentenced last month.

Prosecutors say Ackermann used a debit card to withdraw money from his mother's bank account after she died on April 13, 2007.

Prosecutors say Ackerman knew the money deposited into the bank account was meant for his mother and were supposed to stop after her death. He stopped withdrawing money after her debit card expired in March 2009.

A grand jury indicted Ackermann in April and he pleaded guilty to theft of public funds in August.
