Grandmother Accused Of Child Abuse After Kids Found Wandering

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - A grandmother in Douglas County has been accused of child abuse after two children she was responsible for were wandering alone, outside their apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Authorities found the children, both younger than 5 years old, at The Traditions apartments off of East County Line Road just before 9 a.m.

People in the area flagged down Douglas County deputies. They saw the children running around unsupervised in the chilly weather.

Deputies were able to determine where they lived and arrested their grandmother, Yolanda Borders, 42, for investigation of child abuse.

"We want to make sure that you're looking out for your children and doing the best that you can to protect them," Ron Hanavan with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said. "We also want to applaud the individuals who did raise the attention to the deputies that were in the area. They did the right thing."

The two small children and a 16-year-old were all taken into protective custody.
