First-Ever Nationwide EAS Test Slated For Wednesday Afternoon

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police released a statement announcing the city will test its emergency siren system on Wednesday.

Sonny Jackson with Denver police said the test will occur at 11 a.m.

The federal government will conduct a national test of the Emergency Alert System, or EAS, around noon. It will occur at the same time on all radio, broadcast, cable and satellite TV systems.

"The purpose of the test is to ensure that, if ever needed, a presidential alert message that warns of a national emergency could be disseminated throughout the nation," Jackson said.

The EAS test will last approximately three minutes.
