Eddie Royal Has His Best Game Of The Season In Oakland

DENVER (CBS4) - A few years ago Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal had his coming out party in Oakland. This year he had his best game of the season so far -- in Oakland.

Royal joined CBS4's Vic Lombardi on Xfinity Monday Live! to talk about the game against the Raiders.

"I don't know what it is. A big time rivalry game against the Raiders? You've always got to get up for that one and come out and play your best," Royal said.

Royal's 26 yard touchdown pass from Tim Tebow in the second half triggered the Broncos comeback and eventual 38-24 win over the Raiders.

"I started to run in an area and me and the tight end were kind of in the same spot, so I kind of just drifted back in the open area and Tim found me and it worked out for us," Royal said.

He said it's nice that Tebow kept the play alive.

"As a receiver, you have to do that same thing."

Royal also had an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown. It had been a while since he had handled the punt return duties.

"During the course of the game I was kind of tapping (Coach John Fox) on the leg about giving me a chance and letting me get back there and getting a return. And in the fourth quarter he gave me an opportunity and we were able to score."

Royal said the team had a plan for the punt return.

"We had a plan and the guys did a great job in executing it. You've got to give those guys who were blocking for me a lot of credit. They made it easy for me. I don't even think I got touched."

Wide receiver Eric Decker still says his punt return for a touchdown was longer.

"He came up to me right after and reminded me," Royal laughed. "At this point it doesn't matter, I'm just happy we won."

Lombardi asked Royal if the read option offense that was run with Tebow could work long term in the NFL.

"It worked for us on Sunday and we'll see if the coaches decide to use that game plan against Kansas City. If so, we'll see if it works then."

The Broncos travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs next. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. on CBS4.
