Moore Lashes Out At CBS4 Over Wealth Questions

Filmmaker Visits Occupy Denver Protesters

DENVER (CBS4) – Filmmaker and activist Michael Moore joined a growing crowd at the “Occupy” Denver protest Thursday evening, but his encounter with CBS4 left him fuming when he was asked about whether he represented the “99 percent” that the protesters stand for, or the “1 percent” they claim to be rallying against.

He appeared in Denver for a book signing event and visited the demonstration at Civic Center Park just before 6 p.m.

Moore said a few words to the crowd and then was escorted by two security guards in an SUV to the Tattered Cover’s Colfax location for his “Here Comes Trouble: Stories From My Life” book signing at 6:30 p.m.

Moore talked briefly with CBS4 reporter Evrod Cassimy before he was escorted to his waiting SUV. Watch the entire exchange below.

When asked if he would acknowledge that he was rumored to be worth $50 million, and isn’t he part of the 1 percent, Moore replied, “I do very well.”

Cassimy: “How are you helping these people?”

Moore: “Because I do well, I want taxes raised on people who do well, including mine.”

Cassimy: “How are you helping these people with your $50 million?

Moore: “I don’t have $50 million.”

Cassimy: “That’s what it’s rumored you are worth.”

Moore: “Well, really. Is that what you do is sell rumors?”

Cassimy: “We’re asking you for the truth.”

Moore: “You’re just punk media is all you are. You lie. You lie to people. Stop lying to people. Stop lying.”

Cassimy: “Are you not part of the 1 percent?”

Moore: “Just don’t lie, okay?”

The Associated Press reported that among the comments Moore made to the Denver crowd was a suggestion that the protesters be careful about people who are trying to incite violence among the group because they could be working undercover for the government.

“They want to ignite something to give them a reason to act violently against you. If you see somebody who says they’re a member of this group trying to behave in a violent manner, you must surround that person with love and stop them,” Moore said.

Moore has visited Occupy Wall Street protests in several cities including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland, Ore.

  1. Get Out of Denver says:

How can anyone with good character and integrity support Occupy Trash when they incite violence and continually breaking the law? What does this say about michael no self control evident in my obesity moore’s character?

michael moore is loser and I find it rather ironic that a man who claims to hate capitalism owes his success to capitalism .

    Cleary manipulating the people.

    1. Matt says:

How can some of you not see the issue? It’s not the fact that we had to bail out the banks, the morgage industry, the car companies, wall street and the federal goverment. Its the fact that they felt they still deserved a bonus and their golden parachutes. Even if we are able to fire these people they still get paid millions in severance packages because it is written into their contracts. There is no incentive for these people to do what’s in our best interest as a group. When you report to work, look around you. How many people have been layed off or let go and who is doing there jobs, the ones that are left. You are doing more for less so that the pricinples of your company don’t lose a dollar.

      1. Rationalist says:

For an eyeful of who the protesters really are, check this out…

      2. Jan Strain says:

You want to see who the protestors really are? LOOK at your kids, your parents, your neighbors. WE ARE teachers and truck drivers and nurses and doctors and students and lawyers and secretaries and caseworkers. WE ARE a cross section of America and we are intelligent, thoughtful and compassionate. You don’t see us because you don’t fit those parameters

      3. Eddie says:

OWSers….I say this without any snark or sarcasm,. You aren’t selling the 99% on your misison. I guarantee if you include some of the following signs in your protest you will get more of us on board with you.
        1. End incest between government and private companies: Solyandra
        2. Hey, hey, ho, ho…if you don’t pay ANY taxes you have to go
        3. Freddie MAC and Fannie May how many 401Ks did you kill today, hey, hey
        4. Goldman Sachs—the best money that Obama Can Buy
        5. Occupy Beverly Hills…..and Hollywood, and Cape Cod (we hear that a lot of 1% live there–quite comfortably thank you
        6. Hey Hey, Ho Ho…..insane tutition at our universities has got to go..hey hey
        7. Help the Helpless. Forget the Clueless

The point is that if you include both greedy Wall Street and the federal government you will discover more support from those of us who say you’re just a tool of the DNC and country club Republicans.

      4. Fast Eddy says:

People with a job are not camping out for days in public. They don’t respect the rights of others and hate capitalism…..

      5. Winston says:

        @Fast Eddy

        Cool story bro.

Anyway back on topic, Michael Moore’s wealth is irrelevant to this issue. It’s just a meaningless cheap shot. What wold you do if you had money and still supported OWS? Just dumped it all at the local charity? Thought so.

  2. Ken says:

Michael Moore speaks about the real issues that are happening in this country and some people appreciate that. He has a successful career from his movies and books and the occupy folks do not beleive that this is wrong. They believe it is wrong for bankers to take bailouts from the tax payers and use them to give bonus’s to the very people that destroyed the middle class economy. I witnessed this exchange from the cbs “reporter” who was obviously trying to instigate to make this bogus headline and story that appears here. Pathetic channel 4, why don’t you report real news about what is happening and what the occupy people have to say.

    1. Aggie95 says:

So your saying ole lard ass is not in the 1%

      1. DL says:

He said that he is part of the 1% and that he (and other) one-percenters should be taxed more. Did you miss that part?

    2. TVwife says:

If you believe, that according to the right wing, Moore cannot be successful at what he does, for then, -in the Right wing’s peanut brain- that would make him a capitalist, and they only see their world in black and white.. But there Moore is, supporting the needs of the 99%.. Moore didn’t forget where he came from, how successful he is now, and how he can use that success to help everyone, even the 1% (who will have to see it trickle down) and those millions of Americans whose needs far exceed one millionaire’s total capital.
That was a “Punked” type question he got.. I heard a rumor that there are reporters who don’t care about what’s really happening and don’t bother to triangulate or fact-find before going out to interview. Is that true?

      1. Maggie says:

Really? You don’t find this at all hypocritical? If that were the case, why would he deny having $50,000,000? The fact is that he makes money doing just what he’s doing, riling people up about “the rich”. If he’s holding out for the government to use his money to help poor people, why can’t he give to charities in the meantime? B/c he’s full of it, that’s why. This from the guy who used non-union labor while making “Sicko”.

      2. aneo says:

mr. big shot moore spent his life in a bedroom community filled with middle-class and upper-middle class people. He hasn’t a clue how poor people live…..he’s just real good at making people believe his BS….people like DL who like to be conned.

      3. DL says:

So ANEO, I am conned because I quoted what Mr. Moore said. Thank you for today’s example of creative logic.

      4. Occupy People Are So Uneducated says:

These government teat suckers are too blind to see that they are the reason the USA is bankrupt.

These idiots are among the 47% of non-federal tax payers.
Somehow or another these math-challenged trashpots think that they’re among the 99% of taxpayers left over when you take the top 1% aside as scapegoats for the problems caused by the gullibility of those who sold their votes for the promises of irresponsible politicians.

Remember, people: Obama just said these are “his people” and fully endorsed the protests.

    3. tony says:

Ken, you say it’s wrong for bankers to take bailouts. I wonder, do you believe it’s wrong for government to give bailouts? Banks have not destroyed the middle class. It’s government that’s robbing the future. $14,000,000,000,000 in current liabilities run up by the federal government and you blame banks? Grow up.

      1. Akela says:

So ANEO, I am conned because I quoted what Mr. Moore said. Thank you for today’s example of creative logic.

You just answered your own question, Bub.

    4. oatka says:

Here are the humble digs that Moore “occupies”. Why doesn’t he invite at least that group out to his place for some whine and cheese?

    5. Twerp says:

So when Mike goes ballistic on press agents asking a legitimate question…you support Mike.
Well feeble excuses are all party-line followers need I suppose. Even hypocrisy doesn’t matter to the truly indoctrinated.

    6. skyfloat says:

I bet you – his next mega bucks movie will be titled (you know what) – OWS – Oh – What – Suckers you all are.

    7. Mark says:

As he hurries off in his Al Gore approved SUV… liberals are either the biggest fools or useful idiots this side of stalingrad.

  3. Real Truth says:

Total Number Of Obama-endorsed Occupy Wall Street Arrests Stands At 2,885 as of 10.31.2011 and counting…

  4. Sam Rushing says:

You reporter would do well to do research on the subjects he is reporting before interviewing a man who understands what Occupy Wall Street is all about. He really blew a good chance at an interview with a man who has helped middle class Americans his whole career. Instead of taking cheap shots at Michael, he could have ask him about the movement instead of showing his total lack of understanding in the matter. This is about injustices by Wall Street and the big banks, not the rich against the middle class. Peace

    1. Chuck Manson says:

The only person Moore helps is himself. He’s filthy rich exploiting fools who support his lies.

  5. jdubya says:

It is sad that we have so many clueless young people who follow such a hideous bag of greedy maggots that Mr. Moore is.

Hats off to the liberal media for challenging him on his true financial position.

Doubt you would do this in any other venue.

    1. Batlaimus says:

Is anyone else iinereepcxng severe instability in the Windows Phone design surface since the last round of Microsoft Updates? I’ve been getting very frequent designer crashes. Most of the time it just claims it can’t load some assembly (there are several, it varies). Occasionally the whole VS IDE dies. Sometimes click-to-reload works. Generally, recompiling then clicking to reload is more successful. It’s usable, but only if you have a lot of patience. I don’t believe this is specific to my computer as it happened at home and at work, and one of these is 64 bit Win7Ult, and the other is 32-bit Win7Ult (it’s an elderly notebook), and in both cases the problems started right after updates forced a reboot.

  6. Capitalist says:

To you people supporting Michael Moore-

Does it not bother you that your middle class hero has taken millions in grants from bankrupt Michigan for his films? Does it not bother you that he uses non-union labor for his films? Does it not bother you that Michael Moore is ranting about greedy capitalists, then turns around and climbs in an SUV (don’t forget about global warming, er, climate change!) and goes to a bookstore to make even more money hawking his books? Or does rank hypocrisy not bother you?

  7. point43 says:

Lock and Load, the real revolution is on its way.

    1. jwmiller says:

      Lock and load what?

  8. Gerard Harbison says:

If Michael Moore want to join the 99%, I’ll send him an address where he can send those excess millions. I’d like to join the 1% myself.

I can’t help him with losing the excess pounds, though.

  9. Mel Smith says:

Kudos to Cassimy- good interview. Too bad you didn’t ask him if he gave extra on his taxes- people can give extra on his taxes. If he believes that he should pay more taxes he doesn’t have to wait for Congress to act. He and all those espousing higher taxes should put their money where their mouth is. As for Mr Moore he is all mouth. His films are not very credible and neither is he.

  10. TheScoots says:

OK…so now PorkChop is a book salesman too? I guess he expects the OWS crowd to actually increase that $50 million by buying his books….PT Barnum was right……….

  11. Jen06 says:

Well, really. Is that what you do is sell rumors?”
Fay boy makes “movies” out of rumors.

  12. Philly Phatts says:

Evrod Cassimy will do well at Faux Noise someday. His questions were over the top. He asked a leading question assuming he is(should)be the target of OWS.
    Pretty ignorant reporter.

No wonder news4 is at the bottom of the local ratings .

  13. DL says:

I must have a very different definition of what “fuming” means. I thought he handled the so-called newscaster very calmly and clearly schooled him. This was the best that Channel 4 could do, trying to get a rise out of him. All he said was that having $50million was a rumor and that the reporter was representing junk news. Just the sight of this man, who has done more to point out inequities in our system, sets you all to fuming and frothing.

  14. J. Fraser says:

I was very disappointed in your coverage of Michael Moore. He is a good person, and always tries to help the less fortunate. He has a big heart. Your reporter set him up. It doesn’t matter how much money he makes. He is willing to pay more taxes on it, and believes others in his income bracket should do the same. Why else would he be out there? It’s none of your business what he does with his money or how much he has. HE IS WILLING TO PAY MORE TAXES!! I’m switching news channels.

    1. Tom Littleton, CO says:

People like you crack me up if Bill Gates showed up there you would be howling if they did not ask him the same question!! Mr. Moore is not a Saint or a holy man. He runs in he same circle with Rosy O and her liberal friends! I will bet if I started a petition to to take Peter Boyle, glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh off the air you would have your signature at the top!!

    2. C. Waverly says:

He already does pay more taxes, even if he is actually paying taxes and not finding loopholes to help reduce the amount he pays. That’s the thing – the tax rates on the rich are substantially higher than the tax rates on the 99%. Take me, for example. I’m a schoolteacher, and I file a return each year. I’ve never earned enough for the federal government to actually take taxes from me. State taxes, yes, but not federal. They earn some money from me with the interest they earn on my withholding, but otherwise, I get to keep my income. This “tax the rich more” thing is all smoke and mirrors. The real problem is out-of-control spending by the federal government, and no serious attempt to balance the budget and reduce our federal debt.

    3. drichards says:

Whats the difference between Moore doing what he wants to with his money and the bankers and CEOs doing what they want with their money? He doesn’t have a big heart. If he did he would have finished the interview. Moore has a big wallet and and a bigger opinion of himself which he is protecting.

  15. OWSisFOS says:

“he said he should be taxed more”

THEN LET HIM WRITE A CHECK TO THE TREASURY as an example of how much more he thinks he should be taxed.

want to help the poor in this country?

  16. Kenneth Glenn Koons says:

The hypocritical Left, the Corzines, the Hollywood elites, the MSM flacks on TV and in print that make lots of dough like the dope Moore are really the enemies of truth and American free enterprise. They always bite the hand that feeds them. If only Politico would do an investigative story on all these crooked biased leftists who blast capitalism and support bums like OWS-CAIR-SEIU one should just say NO to all of these Bama clones.

  17. Twerp says:

The good news is that since Mike lashed out at the media, he might just get the same smear campaigns piled on him in revenge that he is used to dishing out.
They tend to eat their own.

  18. Steve says:

How is he a good person? How is he helping the less fortunate. Instead of saying that he is willing to pay more taxes, why doesn’t he just write out the extra taxes check to the US Treasury. I am a Disabled Veteran on Social Security Disability.. But I firmly believe in the Capital System, Without it Michael Moore and the likes of Soros and others would not be able to support OWS… I really wish someone would hack into his financials and make the public, better yet, Michael could do it himself,NOT.

  19. Ned Marrs says:

Hey Steve, thanks for your service. I am a disabled vet also. Do you get a check from both VA and Social Security for your disability? Which I believe you are totally entitled am I. However, even though we deserve it we are like the person said above teat suckers. The idiot that said that above is the uneducated one…not the OWS. We citizens have been taken by frauds in the financial industry who are still doing it in the Obama Administration. They are the same ones in the last five Administrations. Watch “Inside Job” and you will know who did this to us.

  20. Sonny119 says:

Yep, Mr Moore’s blatant Hypocrisy, knows no bounds, as he wants every other American to pay more to help the poor, just not with his 50 Million dollar’s of money… which makes him a hypocrite, for stating he was not part of the 1%, he attacked pothers for being.. what else is new in Hollywood.. liars, hypocrites, racists, bigots, and Anti-American Liberal Socialist-Marxists..

  21. werbaz, neutron says:

Laughably transparent: nature’s way of saying “do not touch.”

  22. John Fembup says:

When, O when will the media stop badgering this poor man with their lying questions?

  23. Ian says:

Rape, assault, public defecation, littering, Antisemitism (actual bigotry and not the trumped up kind of the anti-Tea Party accusers)… the difference between OWS and the Tea Party

  24. ed says:

Hold up a sign that says..”Investigate Solyndra—Perfect Union Between Government and the Private Sector” and then you might get me and a lot of others on board.

If you don’t know about Solyndra make it a weekend project and learn about it. Talk about the incestous relationship between government and corporations.
This is the template, granddaddy example of how these two groups grease each other’s wheels.

Broaden your vision OWSers. It’s not just bankers. You keep forgetting to include the precious federal government in your protests. why?

  25. Fast Eddy says:

Michael Moore advocates burning down Christian churches… go to his website and see ” Burn, baby burn!”. When he was on Anderson Pooper Scooper news show did Anderson ask him about it? Of course not because Anderson is not keeping anyone honest, he is a liar.

    1. Navaspk says:

  26. Trisha Doherty says:

50 millions is his rumored WEIGHT..

Aren’t morbidly obese people supposed to die young? I’m waiting..tick tock tick tock

  27. tony says:

Hello, Moore is still upset over a debate he lost with Milton Friedman over thrity-years ago on TV. Moore as far as I can see is a democratic socialist along with the White House czars, Pevin, Ayers, Soros and Van Jones to name a few. Mr. Obama by-passed the congressinal committe on the selection process for the leaders he as in office. I have reraead the communist manifesto and see that Mr. Obama is in line with the ten steps listed in the book. And, his speech about redistribute wealth, world order, world economy and tax the wealthy is in line with the theory of communism, this will securely Abolish all private property. It seem to me the class warfare as already started. He has ignored the constitution process and as shown to be following in the way of a dictator. I have been a registered democrat for past forty-years and I, friends and a few family members will NOT be voting for Mr. Obama in the next election. Mr. Obama has failed to be tranparent as he promised he would be. I would like the USA to return to the way of the consitution of Life, Liberty and the Persute of Happiness for ALL.

  28. Darlene Stringer says:

We’ve heard it regularly, from massive billboards to your warning labels on cig packets: Smoking cigarettes is a danger to your wellness. But it seems such as the more we hear that, the more it appears like the words somehow were able to lose its efficiency. Smoke assist has emerged as an alternative for smokers who have had struggles with getting themselves off from smoking a cigarette.

Smokers are attracted to tobacco cigarettes because the nicotine in them is very addictive, has psychotropic effects, and that makes the users hooked on to the cigarette. I was in need of an escape from this addiction. I hated the feeling of being hooked with anything. Even worse, it was burning holes in my own pockets. Smoke Assist might be the alternative I was in need of.

My girlfriend didnâ??t enjoy my smoking habit either, and so it truly began getting on my nerves. does indeed work, and I figured out this only after intending it out. There was an absolutely free trial in the providing, so I figured there would be no harm as long as it didnâ??t cost everything. Although smoke assist electronic digital cigarette doesnâ??t quite change the physical cigarette, I wanted to quit so bad so that i was willing to try out anything. Knowing I could easily get back my money if i still ended up some sort of smoker, I decided to take the plunge with the trial version of Smoke Assist.

I am so thankful that I decided to test out this alternative to cigarettes. The outer shell is stainless steel and carries a control circuit. It is governed by a mini-computer, making it a great e-cigarette. This smokeless cigarette does not produce second hand smoke that could be damaging to non-smokers. After concerning 4 months, my urge for tobacco cigarettes provides almost gone away. The idea of cigarettes a smoke assist electronic digital cigarette was so intriguing that i tried it out with regard to novelty, and today, and I acquired way more than We expected.
