Loveland Theater Targeted In Massive Credit Card Fraud

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators say a movie theater in Loveland was apparently targeted by thieves who were stealing credit card numbers.

The Metrolux Theatres at Centerra hired its own forensics investigator which found that the theater credit card system had been breached.

Investigators say the theater is at least one of the origins of nearly 1,200 cases of credit card fraud reported in Northern Colorado in recent weeks.

"As I understand it they committed a cyber attack on the system and were able to install some malware that then collected information and sent it back out,"  Sgt. Mike Halloran with Loveland police said.

Recently hundreds of victims have reported unauthorized credit card charges coming from around the world.

The fraud is so complex that eight different law enforcement agencies in Northern Colorado are now working together on the investigation.
