Durango Police Arrest 22 After Zombie March

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Durango police have arrested 22 people after an unsanctioned "zombie march" downtown that drew about 1,500 people.

The march has become an annual Halloween night tradition. Police say that by 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, marchers were blocking all four lanes of traffic on part of Main Avenue.

They say officers ordered people off the street, but the crowd responded by throwing glass bottles, rocks, sticks, trash cans and other items at officers. Some vehicles, parking meters and flower planters were damaged.

Police say they used pepper spray and bean bag rounds to subdue marchers.

The Durango Herald reports most of the arrests were for misdemeanors of failing to disperse, obstructing a roadway, disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer, but one man was arrested on suspicion of felony assault on an officer.
