Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Director Reassigned

DENVER (AP) - Colorado's medical marijuana enforcement director, who came under fire for a letter he wrote that the state attorney general said gave the appearance of opposing dispensary bans in cities, has been reassigned.

Officials insisted Monday the move is part of an overall reshuffling of leadership within the Department of Revenue.

Taking over for Dan Hartman as medical marijuana enforcement director is Laura Harris, who is currently director of liquor and tobacco enforcement. Her appointment becomes effective Nov. 14.

Taking Harris' place is Don Burmania, who is now director of racing enforcement. Hartman is moving into Burmania's position.

Department of Revenue spokesman Mark Couch said Monday the reorganization by department head Barbara Brohl is so that division directors can learn about different divisions and step in if there's a leadership gap.
