Man Sentenced To 2nd Life Term For 1974 Murder

NAPA, Calif. (AP) - A man already serving a life term for a 1974 Colorado murder has been sentenced to another one for murdering a California bar owner that same year.

Prosecutors say Roy Melanson killed Anita Andrews in the stock room of Napa's Fagiani Cocktail Lounge in July 1974.

The case went cold until 2009, when investigators matched DNA from the scene to Melanson. At the time, he was behind bars for killing a female photographer in the Colorado Rockies a month after Andrews' death.

A Napa County jury found the 74-year-old Melanson guilty of murder last month.

The Napa Valley Register reports that a judge sentenced him Thursday to an "indeterminate" life term.

Prison officials say Melanson first must complete his sentence in Colorado, where records show he's up for parole starting next year.
