Udall Warns About Attacks On US From Pakistan

DENVER (AP) -- Colorado Sen. Mark Udall says if insurgents harm U.S. personnel in Afghanistan from safe havens inside Pakistan, "all bets are off."

Udall says he's not suggesting any specific response but that the U.S. would have to take any such attack seriously. He says safe havens threaten U.S. efforts to force the Taliban out of populated areas of Afghanistan.

He spoke with reporters by phone Thursday during a trip that included stops in Afghanistan to meet with U.S. military and diplomatic officials. Udall, a Democrat, is a member of the Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence.

Udall also says he's impressed by U.S. intelligence work in Afghanistan but says he can't discuss specifics.

He endorsed President Barack Obama's plan to withdraw U.S. troops by 2014.
