Fort Collins police said the accident occurred late Monday when sheriff’s Cpl. Travis Matkin saw a traffic violation, switched on his emergency lights and turned left into the path of the SUV. Police say the SUV had a green traffic light and Matkin was in a left-turn lane with a red traffic light.
The deputy and the three civilians were treated for minor to moderate injuries at Poudre Valley Hospital and released.
