Grand Junction Closer To Getting Minor League Team
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Grand Junction is a step closer to landing a Colorado Rockies minor league baseball team after the City Council agreed on a lease agreement for a city-owned baseball park.
The council approved the lease Monday night. A news conference is scheduled for Wednesday with city officials and owners of the team, now known as the Casper Ghosts of Casper, Wyo.
Grand Junction has been in negotiations with the Casper Rockies Investment Group to move the team to Grand Junction. The Ghosts are in the Pioneer League, a rookie circuit.
Grand Junction's baseball field seats more than 10,000 and is undergoing improvements costing $8.3 million. The work is scheduled to be completed by May 2012.
