Colorado Fair Goats Disqualified Over Banned Drug
PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - Two goats have been disqualified from the Colorado State Fair Junior Livestock Sale after testing positive for a banned drug.
Fair officials say the animals tested positive for ractopamine, a drug that promotes muscle growth. The Food and Drug Administration has not approved the drug for use in goats.
Fair officials said Tuesday the Grand Champion goat and another goat were disqualified, and the funds from the Junior Livestock Sale, totaling nearly $7,000, have been forfeited.
The competitors were also barred from participating in future livestock events at the Colorado State Fair.
The decision follows the disqualification of the Reserve Grand Champion hog during the fair after questions arose concerning the ownership of the animal.
