ASPEN, Colo. (AP) – Aspen Mayor Mick Ireland is recommending that Pitkin County and other local municipalities pool their resources to help financially strapped families with child care.
Ireland told the Aspen City Council on Monday the city should help out following a decision by the advisory board of the city’s child-care program to restrict access because of budget cuts. The program was previously required to accept families formerly served by the county.
According to the Aspen Times, there has been rapidly growing demand for assistance because of the economic downturn.
