Tipton Doubles Campaign Fundraising Haul
DENVER (AP) - U.S. Republican Rep. Scott Tipton doubled his re-election campaign fundraising haul this quarter after his Democratic challenger got off to a fast start in his effort to unseat him.
The freshman congressman from Colorado's 3rd District said Monday he raised about $300,000 for the quarter that ended September 30. Tipton was among worst Republican fundraisers in the House during the previous reporting period when he raised about $147,000.
He got a boost this quarter when Republican House Speaker John Boehner hosted an August fundraiser for him in Aspen.
Democratic state Rep. Sal Pace is challenging Tipton. Pace raised $165,000 in the most recent reporting period. He raised about $100,000 in the previous quarter during a one-month period after announcing his candidacy.
