Fort Collins Police Investigate Deadly Crash

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Fort Collins are investigating a traffic crash between a truck and a motorized wheelchair. The man in the wheelchair was struck and killed.

Witnesses said a white Chevy Silverado truck was traveling eastbound on E. Harmony Road approaching Wheaton Drive when it struck the wheelchair.

Police believe the man in the wheelchair was attempting to travel northbound across three lanes of traffic on E. Harmony Road. There is no marked crosswalk or traffic light at that intersection.

The driver of the truck, John Sollenberger, was not injured. The man in the wheelchair was 54 years old. His identity has not been released.

That section of E. Harmony Road was closed for about 3 ½ hours while police investigated the accident. Police continue their investigation, but do not believe that speed, alcohol or drugs were involved.

No citation has been issued to Sollenberger, 39, of Fort Collins, at this time.
