Thousands Run 'Rock' Marathon In Cool Temps

DENVER (CBS4) - The weather cooperated for the Sports Authority Rock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon on Sunday after a somewhat rainy Saturday, and a new record was set.

Chris Siemers of Arvada finished with a time of 2:18:48 and qualified for the Olympic trials.

"I knew this was going to be a tough goal to accomplish, but I live here in the Mile High and I wanted to do it here," Siemers said.

Siemers said his college roommate Josh Eberly helped him along for some of the route. Eberly was running the half marathon and wound up winning the half.

Olympic medalist Lidia Simon from Romania was all smiles after winning the women's half, but there were mixed emotions for Heather Utrata, winner of the marathon.

"I was so happy that I won. So disappointed that I didnt' make the qualifying time," she said.

The Sports Authority Rock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon certainly attracts elite runners, but it also gives casual joggers, or folks that are just beginning to find the power of exercise a chance to get out there and run for a good cause.

An estimated 14,000 people ran in the race on Sunday. The temperatures were in the 40s for much of the race.

CBS4 is a proud sponsor of the Sports Authority Rock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon.
