Hungry Bear Rips Through ‘Bear-Proof’ Garbage Enclosure

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – Many people who live in areas where bears like to roam take precautions, but a family in Colorado Springs says they watched a bear tear through what was supposed to be a bear-proof enclosure for garbage bins.

“We know to stay a little farther back from him, of course, not to get too close to him, but it definitely calls for an exciting afternoon,” the homeowner said.

This is the time of year when bears start packing on the pounds to prepare for hibernation. The bears can eat 20,000 calories a day and gain 100 pounds to get ready for their long winter nap.
