Children Stomp On Grapes To Help Out Hospital

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) - It looked like a scene from France on Sunday in Centennial as children hopped in giant wooden barrels and stomped on grapes.

The children got the barefoot experience at Tagawa Gardens in a benefit put on by Balisteri Vineyards for Children's Hospital.

The grapes -- Merlots -- will be used in a special wine from Balisteri called "Little Feet Merlot."

Julie Balisteri assured everyone that no one needs to worry about how clean the childrens' feet were before hopping in the barrel.

"We actually make wine out of the Merlots that the kids are stomping today. After they stomp the grapes they'll go back to the winery, they'll ferment. So you don't have to worry about the toe jam because all of that boils out through the primary fermentation and after that the alcohol takes over."

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the wine benefits Children's Hospital.
